- 1 (16-ounce) package pound cake mix
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with shortening; dust with flour. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, milk, butter, and eggs. Blend with an electric mixer on low speed until moistened, about 30 seconds. Increase speed to medium; beat 2 minutes. . Remove 1/3 of the batter to a small bowl; stir cocoa powder into this batter. Spread half of plain batter into prepared pan. Using half of the chocolate batter, drop tablespoonfuls randomly onto plain batter. Spread the remaining plain batter over chocolate batter. Drop the remaining chocolate batter over plain batter in the same manner. Using a butter knife, swirl through the batters to create a marbled effect. Bake until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, 50 to 55 minutes. Cool in pan 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack. Cool completely. Makes 12 servings.
