Meet G. Brian Benson | Actor, 5x Author, Speaker & Creative
We had the good fortune of connecting with G. Brian Benson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
There are so many important factors that have helped me along in my journey it is really hard to just share one. I would have to say it’s a combo of these three factors. Listening to and trusting my intuition, staying authentic and being true to myself and establishing a routine that helps me stay grounded and maintain balance in my life. I wouldn’t be where I am today had I not implemented these three factors. My intuition has been guiding me from day one. I had no idea I had any creative abilities inside of me until about 12 years while I was doing some self-growth work that included incorporating some ways for me to maintain balance in my life. My intuition screamed expand the list and write a book, so I trusted that voice inside of me and the book poured out of me in a couple of months. I had no idea I would be an author up until that point in my life. From there I just kept following my intuitive hits and one thing lead to another and I moved to LA 7 years ago and began acting and creating all kinds of other positive media content (more books, short films, TEDx presentation and spoken word poetry). It was all a surprise. Everything I created was an extension of my own self-growth process. So for me, it was a combination of those three factors!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am someone who loves to create positive and inspirational work in a variety of forms of media to wake people up. What do I mean by “wake them up?” I want to be a living example for others. I have done a lot of self-growth work on myself and ultimately want others to be the best version of themselves that they can be. I know how good it feels to step into my true power of just being me and utilizing my unique gifts. It feels amazing to let go of trying to be like everyone else. So If I can inspire someone with one of my books, presentations, spoken word pieces or short films to just get enough courage to step out of their own comfort zone and see what is really inside of them, like I did myself…that makes me happy. That is where the gold is. I had no idea I would be doing any of this. I just got the courage to listen to my intuition and let it guide me forward. When I was three years old, I told my Mom that “I was put here to inspire people.” And it’s funny…she reminded me of that after I came to accidentally write my first book 12 years ago called “Brian’s List- 26 1/2 Easy to Use Ideas on How to Live a Fun, Balanced, Healthy Life!” And since I wrote that book 12 years ago…it’s been quite a journey of continuing to step into my fears and seeing what else I was capable of. Since then I have written 4 more books including 2 children’s books, produced and written a couple of short films that have been well received, cast in an upcoming TV show called “Sangre Negra,” hosted my own podcasts and presented a TEDx talk. Everything I create is an extension of my own self-growth process and not only is it incredibly healing for me, but hopefully helps others on their path. We all have a lot in common and ultimately, we all want to love and be loved. And sometimes it just takes one person to give another person permission by leading the way. I want my work to help other people move forward and feel less alone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Give me a hiking trail and trees and I am a happy person! Must be the native Oregonian in me. Some of my favorite places to hike in LA are Fryman Canyon (Studio City), Griffith Park, Solstice Canyon (Malibu), and Topanga Canyon. I tend to like places that are a bit less crowded and would definitely take my friend out to Malibu first go for a hike and then visit the beach. Some of my favorite places to go in the city: I have been to the Magic Castle a couple of times and it just blew me away. It feels like you are stepping back into a speakeasy in the 20’s. I also love to play tourist and take the studio tours and Warner Brothers and Universal Studios. Griffith Park Observatory is incredible and I would have to say that H.O.P.E restaurant in Studio City is my favorite place to eat!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to say my parents. They have always shown me a lot of love and been supportive through the years. Whether it was in sports as a child, during my triathlon years as a young adult, with the family business (golf center that had a retail store, driving range and 9-hole par 3 course in Salem, Oregon) and now after I transitioned out of the family business and into the creative world. That has meant a lot and I am very appreciative.
