Prayer on Purpose: My Appearance on TCT
Tomorrow is New Year’s Eve, and while for many it’s a celebration of renewal and hope, for others it’s a lonely time filled with depression and doubt.
Earlier this month, I had the honor of being a guest on TCT for an interview on host Tom Nolan’s Prayer on Purpose program.
Tom and I had a very honest, revealing conversation about what it means to hit rock bottom and the importance of hope and healing on the way out of the depths of despair, shame, and guilt.
It is with this conversation in mind that I put forth this New Year’s wish for everyone in search of healing: May your journey, whatever it may be, take you toward ever greater honesty, empathy, compassion, and forgiveness.
And may 2021 be a year of continued growth for all of us.

This story differs from similar accounts of childhood domination or abuse because it tells the story of the author’s seemingly paradoxical responses to the powerful forces in my life, but doesn’t leave it at that. It sheds light on the social and religious dynamics underlying these responses, giving readers insights into and understanding of her otherwise incomprehensible choices, as she found my way back into loving relationships with her parents and the Mennonite community.
