Thriving in the Eye of the Hurricane

Joe Bailey (author of Thriving in the Eye of the Hurricane) welcomes you to his new podcast which happens every three weeks at 1 PM (CDT).

new book cover for "Thriving in the Eye of the Hurricane"

From the publisher of “Thriving in the Eye of the Hurricane, Unlocking Resilience in Turbulent Times”

This book is for our times: How to Survive and Thrive in Our Uncertain and Turbulent New Normal

Joseph Bailey has helped bring a new paradigm to the public’s attention called Three Principles Psychology. He has taken this paradigm into the healthcare field, addictions and psychotherapy and calls it “The Transformation Principle.” Those who have learned this new form of resilience develop an inner compass that enables them to live in the “eye of the hurricane”, even in the most challenging situations.

What is the Transformation Principle?

Transformation happens through an understanding of the very nature of human experience and how it is governed by principles.  When we insightfully realize these principles in our lives we bring about a “transformative resilience” that radically shifts the way we understand ourselves and our chaotic world. It creates an inner strength and self-confidence, enabling us to see it is our thinking that defines our experience and lifestyle.

Calm at the center of the storm.

In this ground-breaking book, discover that you are the author of your own reality. That you live in the feeling of your own thinking, moment to moment. If your own internal thinking defines your reactions, you can rediscover your innate mental health and feel more in control of your levels of stress and exhaustion–even in the most challenging situations.

Burnout prevention and resilience in a changing world.

As a leader in the field of addiction therapies and strategies for overcoming fear and burnout, Joseph Bailey has piloted a number of programs on transformative resilience at the Mayo Clinic, The University of Minnesota Medical School, addiction treatment centers, and healthcare facilities. Thousands of students, clients, and professionals have been inspired and educated by his Transformation Principle. He has provided his program of practical tips and proven methods to first responders and a variety of professions including businesses, social service agencies, hospitals, and universities.

If you enjoyed books like Addicted to the Monkey Mind, The New Normal, or Leverage Your Mindset, you’ll love Thriving in the eye of the Hurricane. Also, enjoy Joseph Bailey’s Slowing Down to the Speed of Life (co-author Dr. Richard Carlson).https://www.youtube.com/embed/see6xkagYyE?controls=1&rel=0&playsinline=0&modestbranding=0&autoplay=0&enablejsapi=1&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.joebaileyandassociates.com&widgetid=1

WATCH NOW! EPISODE #7

Airdate: Tuesday, September 21st. Thriving in the Eye of the Hurricane: “Resilience in Action: Transforming Schools, Children, Parents, and Education”. with Barb Aust, Christa Campsail, Brooke Wheeldon-Reese, and Gary Johnson

Three guests in this episode are transforming the way education is experienced by everyone involved including schools, children, parents, and the education system itself!

Excerpt from Chapter 11

Resilience in Action: Transforming Children, Parents, and Education

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the World”, Nelson Mandela

Children are our future. Whether we are parents, teachers, police, religious, or volunteers, we all want to invest all our love, wisdom and guidance to prepare our children for life. Children are like a seed that has all the potential of the mature plant, that realizes its full potential through practicing principles of gardening or horticulture.
Raising children with an understanding of the Principles of resilience allows that seed to grow, to help them realize their purpose, talents, happiness, and success in life. Without an understanding of the Principles behind resilience, we as influencers in their lives are handicapped to nurture that resilience. This chapter will share stories of how the Three Principles is transforming parenting, education, and counseling children.

About our guests:

Barb Aust, BEd., MEd.

Barb Aust

Barb met Syd Banks in April 1975 and her life and that of her family changed 180 degrees! Barb has been actively involved in education for five decades as a teacher, principal, university instructor, consultant and author. Barb has served as a volunteer on many community health and seniors’ related boards. A registered Patient Partner in British Columbia, she currently sits on Island Health’s Seniors’ Council as an advocate for seniors. Barb is fully retired but keeps her finger in the pie as a voracious letter writer encouraging and advising policy makers in the areas of senior support, healthcare, education and the environment.

Christa Campsall BEd, DiplSpEd, MA

Christa is a teacher who has been in service at the primary, intermediate and secondary levels in the Canadian K12 education system as: Classroom Teacher, Learning Integration Support Teacher in Special Education, and Teacher-Leader of School-based Teams.Throughout this varied experience, Christa has benefitted from an understanding she encountered when she was a student at the University of BC in 1975. At that time, she was introduced by Sydney Banks to what today is called the “Three Principles of Mind, Consciousness, and Thought.” Even a first glimmer of this knowledge had the power to transform her life by impacting her teaching and learning, as well as deepening the level of happiness and peace of mind in her personal life. Christa was privileged to be mentored by Mr. Banks throughout her teaching career.
For 40+ years Christa had achieved dramatic results sharing the Principles with her own students and therefore was inspired to answer the National Resilience Resource Center call for a global curriculum. With a team, she developed and designed the MGI series to innovatively meet government education guidelines. My Guide Inside is disseminated in over 20 countries and multiple translations are available.
Christa lives on Salt Spring Island in BC; she enjoys connecting, sharing, and collaborating with educators in the global community.

Gary Johnson, MSW,

has had a variety of social service jobs in his career and was introduced to the Three Principles in 1996.  He worked in public schools for the last 35 years as a school social worker in St. Cloud, Minnesota and for the last 20 years in Menomonie, Wisconsin.  Prior to that time he worked in a hospital mental health setting, in a group home with young men, Head Start program teaching and administration and teaching in a prison education setting.  When he was introduced to the principles he moved from trying to fix people to drawing out the health that he knew was present in the people he worked with.  He worked as a trainer with the National Resilience Resource Center in Menomonie and other educational settings.  His last years before retirement, he worked as a mental health therapist seeing himself as a mental health educator.  He continues to live in the joy of gratitude.

We had four powerful guests, Jacqueline Hollows (aka MamaJ), Omar Wilson, Derrick Mason, and Pete Mears, featured in my upcoming book “THRIVING IN THE EYE OF THE HURRICANE, UNLOCKING RESILIENCE IN TURBULENT TIMES” appearing live on our podcast. They each had an amazing message and some great dialogue from our participants made it one of our best episodes yet! Here’s a small introduction to each of our guests.

About our guests:

Jacqueline Hollows (aka MamaJ)

image of Jacqueline Hollows
Jacqueline Hollows (aka MamaJ) is the founder of Beyond Recovery, a facilitator and speaker.

BR’s mission is to revolutionize the way addictions, mental health, and offending behavior are viewed and treated. Through sharing an understanding of how our experience of life is created from our own minds, the pioneering work that BR does has the potential to reform the criminal justice system from the inside out.

Jacqueline is an author of research papers evidencing BR’s approach and is a regular contributor for a prison newspaper: InsideTime (readership c60,000).

Jacqueline is passionate about uncovering the potential in people who have been marginalized and eliminating the stigma human beings suffer as a result of mental health issues. She is an author and is working on her second book Mind Beyond Bars – Stories of Transformation and What They Mean for Humanity which describes some of the wonderful changes she has seen in people who have been in prison and charts her journey from a trauma filled childhood to becoming a pioneer in the world of prison reform.

Omar Wilson

image of Omar Wilson
Omar Wilson is a director, facilitator, and speaker

He grew up in Manor Park, East London. At a young age he was diagnosed with ADHD & Dyslexia. Growing up in a single parent household with his two siblings plus a low income. Omar thought having money would help change everything and because of his disability education was not an option. The only role model he had was killed when Omar was 13. With no guidance but what was in front of him …DRUGS. Omar was part of one of Newham’s (in London) biggest drug organisations for almost 10 years. As a result of this he was sent to HMP Onley where he found Beyond Recovery.

Omar became a BR Peer Mentor helping to facilitate groups. Since leaving prison he has worked closely with Beyond Recovery at HMP Nottingham and online, in addition to working with young people affected by crime and has now become a Director at Beyond Recovery with the blessing of MamaJ

He is one of the founders of Beyond Truth.

Derrick Mason

image of Derrick Mason
Derrick Mason is a director, facilitator and speaker

He first came across Beyond Recovery during his time in HMP Onley, taking the course purely to improve his chances for getting to open prison! He was so impacted by his experience that upon release from prison in August 2018 he got a job and started building good family relationships with his partner and children. When he hit a low spot in May 2019, he contacted Jacqueline and was invited to speak at a global conference about his transformative experience.

Since then, he’s become a director with Beyond Recovery, he is also now on the board of directors of the 3 Principles Global Committee and is co-founder of Beyond Truth.  Derrick co-facilitates a BR Virtual Impact Program in the community and presents on webinars and radio programs.

Pete Mears

image of Pete Mears

Pete Mears loves to share and help others. He has spent a lifetime suffering in a dark, lonely place and trying to escape the devil he thought was inside him. For 25 years he tried to escape through drink and drugs, even threw the breakdown of his marriage and eventually couldn’t see any other way out resorted to jumping off a bridge. Fortunately, he was saved by a passing policeman and is here to tell his story.

Pete has now realised the irony that the very thing he was trying to escape was himself! He didn’t know he had a choice to be how he wanted to be. He felt negative much of the time and now he realizes that is all down to Thought.

Now he can see a way of welcoming negative thoughts in as there is something to be learned from everything.

He has been sober and most importantly happy for 9 months and he wants to share his inner joy with others to spark the light in them. His message is that “you are not alone” and “the solution is simple”.
